He was also the Vice President of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, one of the Sunni Muslim organisations in Kerala
Hyderali Shihab Thangal was a member of the Pukkoya family of Panakkad, Malappuram.
He was the third son of P. M. S. A. Pookkoya Thangal (1913-1975) and the younger brother of Sayed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal and Sayed Umerali Shihab Thangal.[3]
He was elected as the successor to Panakkad Sayeed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal as the Kerala State President of Indian Union Muslim League in 2009.
He helmed both the temporal and spiritual saddles of the Community. He served as an asylum for people saddled with difficulties ranging from high stakes political tremors to laymen perturbed over medical and marriage expenses.
He came to be epitomized as simplicity and care but also eulogized as a resolute politician, rarely seen in the rough and tumble of Indian democracy.
Hyder Ali Thangal was a calm personality in Kerala politics. He worked for communal harmony. Irrespective of political differences, he maintained good relationship with all. Apart from politics he led many other charity and educational institutions. He died at the Little Flower Hospital in Angamaly, on 6 March 2022, at the age of 74
